This article was written in response to Freddy Griffiths’ work created for ‘Truth must be understood as something more than correctness’ at Lakeside Arts Centre at the University of Nottingham 22 January 2022 – 6 March 2022.
The article suggests a theory of translation which is applied to Walter Benjamin’s travel through Europe during his lifetime, culminating in his journey through France to the Spanish border as he fled the Nazi invasion of Paris and his suicide in Port Bou.
