Call for papers – Symposium on Boredom

Symposium on Boredom – Discussion of a listless society

This upcoming year, society as a whole is approaching a new threshold in various ways. This horizon offers some opportunities, one of which is the foundation of our symposium on boredom and the discussion of a listless society.

The organisers invite works about boredom and examinations of being bored. The organisers will accept submission of but not limited to: academic papers, scores, photographs, books, sculptures, paintings, poetry, letters, screen prints, needlework, ceramics, plants, pets, family and friends.

Work should be about 45 minutes long, and questions may be addressed to speakers after the symposium, preferably by post or via email.

By approaching the idea of boredom within the context of time and duration, the appreciation and depreciation of this phenomenon can be observed. Observation of boredom is not freedom, it merely allows new viewpoints on boredom to be freed. This conference would seek to ascertain the edges of boredom, understand it within and without us, to work in conjunction with it, and for boredom to reveal itself to us in sweet return.

The symposium will be held via Microsoft Teams on a future date to be decided via discussion. Please email by return if you would like to submit an abstract and for list of references.
